Nestled on the southern slopes of the Cimini Mountains, Vallerano is a village rooted in the distant past, with traces of human settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. Surrounded by green chestnut groves, hazelnut orchards and vineyards, the village offers a bucolic and peaceful landscape, immersed in nature and characterized by medieval walls and towers. A place where time seems to stand still, ideal for those seeking slow and careful tourism.

Strolling through the narrow stone streets of the historic center, accessed through two medieval gates, one breathes in an atmosphere of times gone by. Among small squares and stairways, one can admire the characteristic profferli, small outdoor steps typical of this area, and the village's churches. Traffic is interdicted in the center, leaving room for visitors to explore every corner quietly, without the disturbance of cars.

Outside the village, the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Ruscello is one of the most important monuments. Built in the early 17th century and linked to a Marian miracle, the shrine features a Baroque facade and a splendid monumental organ inside. Every year, this place welcomes a significant pilgrimage of devotees and the curious.

Also just outside the town, at Pantaniccio (or Pantanicchio), the Grotto of St. Savior opens in the rock, a chapel from the early Middle Ages that preserves an altar carved out of living stone, remains of Byzantine-style frescoes and an arcane atmosphere.

Vallerano's gastronomic specialties are closely linked to the products of the area. First among all, the Vallerano chestnut DOP, recognized by the European Union in 2009 for its unique qualities, and celebrated in autumn with the popular Chestnut Festival. Other typical products include hazelnuts and Tuscia DOP extra virgin olive oil, delicacies that enrich the local cuisine. In July, another local specialty is celebrated with the Porchetta Festival.

One of the most evocative events in Lazio is the exciting Night of the Candles, which attracts thousands of visitors at the end of August and transforms Vallerano into an enchanted setting, illuminated by more than 100,000 candles scattered in every corner of the village.

Vallerano also offers numerous opportunities for those who love nature and hiking. The woods surrounding the village are perfect for walks and outdoor activities, immersed in a natural setting that reflects the tranquility of the place.
