Named one of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages and crowned Borgo dei Borghi in 2023, there are a thousand reasons to visit this beautiful town perched in the southern hills of the Cimini Mountains, near the spectacular Lake Vico.
Ronciò, as it is called by locals, is a stage on the Cimina variant of the Via Francigena, and has a medieval and a Renaissance part.
The medieval part, from the older Borgo di Sotto to the more modern Borgo di Sopra, offers wonderful glimpses made up of delightful alleys, tuff houses and ancient walls, made even more picturesque by the splendid decorations of plants, flowers and artistic ornaments. A walk along the narrow medieval streets reveals enchanting corners such as the Borgo's Garden and the Vicolo del Bacio.
In the Renaissance part of the town added by the Farnese family, stately and aristocratic palaces alternate with modern bars, ice cream parlors and snack stores, as well as fancy clothing and gift stores.
From the village you can admire the majestic Eiffel-style Iron Bridge, built in 1928 with a special construction technique of which there are few other examples in the world.
Given the beauty and distinctiveness of the place, it is no coincidence that Ronciglione has been-and continues to be-the scene of countless notable films and television series, including L'armata Brancaleone, The Bachelor, La dolce vita, La vita è bella, Romanzo criminale, and most recently Il mostro.
Ronciglione also boasts proximity to Lake Vico, a lake of volcanic origin within the Lake Vico Regional Nature Reserve.
The area surrounding Ronciglione is known for the vast hazelnut groves from which the Nocciola Tonda Gentile Romana DOP hazelnut, one of the area's excellences, originates.
Numerous events take place throughout the year in the town. The most prominent ones and those that attract visitors from all over Italy and beyond are the colorful Carnival, the Hollow Races and the Living Nativity.
Ronciglione has a long food and wine tradition. Tortorelli are the poor man's dish of Ronciglionese tradition, made of only water and flour. There are many fish dishes from nearby Lake Vico, including whitefish, perch fillets, and lattarino. Also delicious are local desserts such as carnival struffolli, fregnacce with ricotta, pampapato and cinnamon, and St. Joseph's fritters.
