Blera

The village of Blera stands perched on a tuffaceous plateau, in an area that does not appear among the typical tourist circuits, although it is in an area full of places to visit. These include its Secret Necropolis, known mostly to locals or enthusiasts, including the site of Pian del Vescovo just outside the village.

Blera is a genuine and authentic town that does not sport ostentatious buildings. Wandering around the center one finds narrow streets, small squares and old houses of obvious peasant origin, with their typical external staircases or profferli. The dominant material is red tuff, typical of these areas where volcanic activity has shaped the land.

The small alleys of the ancient village are decorated with flowers and plants look like an open-air living room, where the men and women of the village knit and play cards.

This is a destination that offers the possibility of wonderful excursions to necropolis and areas outside the town, such as the Devil's Bridge. With its winding roads, the hamlet of Civitella Cesi is also a fascinating place for cyclists and motorcyclists. It is here that the Sagra delle fettuccine al tartufo (truffle fettuccine festival) is held in August, where you can also taste delicious Maremma meats seasoned with the excellent local olive oil.

In fact, the star here is gastronomy. Typical products are Rocciata, a cake made with the Tonda Gentile Romana DOP hazelnut, Tuscia DOP extra virgin olive oil and some Tuscia DOC wines.
